Woooaaahhh X-men

Woooaaahh the X-men just got fun, so much I Stopped what i was doing to write about it, the problems which have plagued this book for me , has been the X-men in and of themselves haven't always occupied the most exciting corner of the marvel universe. Part of this is there rogue's gallery is weak, Magento and the Brotherhood of evil mutants being the most interesting, Apocalypse and Mr Sinister bore me to tears, The Brood is an Alien rip off, The Hell-fire club has potential but hasn't been written well since the 80's , Nimrod the and all other mutant hunting time travelling machine including Mojo, are well ...tepid at best. This current archin X-men 25 makes the best of the mess made when Jubliee was turned into a vampire, and is bringing other elements of the marvel universe in which i think makes for a better read , as does any X title when it is allowed to roam in the bigger sand box.

On the other hand the Secret Avengers is starting to feel like an X-book, the art is continues to be horrid.

Thor is getting better on every front , though not where it need to be mainly more Thor, yeah i know a novel concept to actually have an entire issue focused on the main character. But hammer hitting things is a good start.

jumping companies ....Teen Titans the art dazzles but they need to be careful about becoming too obtuse, in fact after Super-man this could become a problem plaguing most of the 52 titles, a myriad of mythology which takes twists that become too contrived to care. Aqua-man 6 just fell into the Thor pit, a whole issue of just Mera, though not as bad as it sounds.
Yet to read Voo-doo but Dark Knight was one of the more entertaining dc titles, though kinda of an anti X-men as he has villains coming out of the wood work at a rate that is almost silly and very cartoonish.

The Week in Comics

the Incredible Hulk 5 , SPOILERS AHEAD-The reveal of Dr Doom,as the Hulk's scientific benefactor was let out early on, though after the whole World War Hulk's thing on Pak's run, Doom working with the Hulk didn't make alot of sense ...But I'll see how it plays out the fact this story arch has been drawn out over 5 issues into a 6th , is moving a little slow as we tango with the Gamma Zoo Island, but lots of smashing so it's a minor gripe, the whole this story has a major impact on the rest of the marvel universe thing they are always pitching is now getting to be very Chicken Little

Venom- 13. whatever- It reminds me of the replacement Fantastic Four issues where, Spider man, Ghost Rider, Hulk and Wolverine teamed up, the use of Venom, Ghost Rider, X-2e and the Red Hulk isn't even trying to hide this fact, entertaining no new ground broken here, not sold on a female Ghost Rider, and Venom/Flash Thompson...is proving to be a weak character doesn't even feel like Thompson's voice ,

Secret Avengers 22- the art work is the horrid penciling fro the Hulk book, we've got magic super adaptoids, o.k got send Capt Britain back to X-calibur , and I might by the line-up, I think this books should just get turned into west coast avengers

Black Panther-mmm the art is a little suspect as Luke Cage and Kingpin are both drawn a little puny, the title character has never grabbed just thought this Kingpin fight would be interesting but it didn't go any different than say a dare devil fight , leaving me to wonder is this just a "TOKEN" title, if so make it more Shaft

Bat-man & Robin- I have never seen the need for Robin, I do like Damian Wayne , perhaps more as a Teen Titans and less as a pea in the pod to Bat-man, the father son thing makes sense and Robin is now synonymous with the character and there is no avoiding that, the art work is still good but i think the writing could lend it self to playing up to the epic potential , this whole spy vs spy thing ... leaves much to be desired when i first gave this one a shot i like the writing but it's becoming too drawn out and bogged down with forced back story

Pleading the 5th

Ok here's a recap, review of where we are at 5 issues deep into this new DC 52, I'll skip a few of the books I covered already. First off Aqua-man, my love for the character aside has become one of their stronger books, the dispelling the jokes about the character beat was getting a little old and now John's is letting up on it, this rogue's gallery we were promised has yet to surface, I think time will tell as to if they can keep the book from being pulled into the under tow of becoming an underwater space opera.
The Justice League books are a mixed bag, with the new dark being unreadable, and the main book still the strongest, International has interesting character development though similar in tone every issue, number six will be a make or break for me if they keep shoveling out the same bland cartoon cosmic bad guy of the month. Speaking of space opera's Legion of Superheroes has surprised me as to how entertaining it is even with the very 90's art work.
Griter , the art work is some of the best DC has to offer, story could be stronger , granted I know very little about any of the characters in this book, but it feels very Image.
NightWing, didn't really wow me the art was just middle of the road and the entire presentation felt very 1986 to me, the art in fact reminded me of Warlord now that i think of it. Is not a title that has inspired me to read beyond this issue.
O.m.a.c- this title is a page turner, the Kirby style, works for the vintage feel of when comics were fun, this battle with Frankenstein won me over , will keep giving this title a shot as long as they stay the course
Red Hood and the Outlaws- the art is great the story feels like Alpha Flight for me but not their stronger issues, have only read one other issue so i think i am missing something here as the whole Dark Crystal looking city didn't make sense to me , the fantasy element here is heavy handed even with StarFire in the picture
Stormwatch... something is amiss with this title , Martian Manhunter is one of my favorite dc characters and I think he would be put to much better use in JLA, than wasted on this book, the art is some of the better work out there the story is too caught up in it's own space myth to matter every thing seems more important than it is and there is no apparent threat
Suicide squad.. the book could benefit from better art , it of course still feels like DC'S answer to Thunderbolts, will more than likely read another but something needs to change by issue ten
Super-boy-with out being too spoilery I did not see the book taking the direction it has , not the cream of the crop it looks like it is working hard to try and get there, the art was adequate, maybe the inks seemed a little soft for my tastes as there is some darker stuff going on in this book and the art reflecting itget take it to where it wants to go
Super girl- at first i thought this book just needed to take lessons from Superboy on how to avoid getting mired down in the mythos of Krypton, the books takes a turn in a better direction only to have the writer's stupidity highlighted, ok i kinda liked this Reign character who showed up, she's powerful enough to stop a Super-girl punch, then when Super-girl breaks Reign's sword , the character seems surprised and asks how she did that, Regin then proceeds to kick Super Girls red panties, so if she is strong enough to do that then why be surprised when some one you are at least as strong breaks your sword when you by this reasoning would be able to do that as well, breaking my rule about upholding the laws of your mythology
Swamp-thing- one of my top 5 DC character's so i can tell you for certain nothing is more annoying than a Swamp-thing, with no Swamp- thing after 5 issues, Synder says he is a fan , maybe of Alec Holland but not of the Swamp-thing, the clive barker / alan moore feel is present but Moor had the good sense to let the character be the character we pay to see.
Fire-storm - when i started reading this i forgo the previous issue was full of multi colored variations of Fire-storm who were fighting each other with the same powers-one of the stupider cliches
Savage Hawk-man- the art is still bad the new story arch seems like it could be better as gentle-man ghost is back
Voo-doo- decent art , middle of the road story they could be going some where hard to tell, liked the previous issue better
Wonder-woman- right off the bat i disliked the art, Wonder-woman should be in their top 5 books, arguably still the company's 3rd most popular character , she deserves better quality than this, out of respect if nothing else
Teen-titans... was everything I could have wanted , if they just kill off this Bunker fool it might be their best book, the art and the writing both are what comics should be , keep the fun of the 80's golden years but progress the concepts while holding true to the characters , if you like super heroes read this book
Flash- well this book has been worse came closer to being entertaining than i have read it in a while and that includes the convoluted Johns reborn junk.
